Welcome to the Radical Tone Blog

This is the official launch... ahh, forget all that stuff. We are going to talk about tone here. Specifically, lots of thought relating to guitar tones but we shall also include and not limit ourselves to (that's like legal jargon) studio recording, particularly of guitars. Once again, that's guitar tones -- live and in the studio. What makes it good, what makes it bad (not as much about that because we all seem to know how to do that) and how to fix what you've got. So what makes me qualified to write this? (Rubbing hands together) good question! Could be my 20 years as a studio musician along with hundreds (or is it thousands) of live shows under my belt with all kinds of musical acts from duos to 23 piece big bands. From big band hits, to country, to you name it, leader, band member, side man, etc... Let's just say I'm overqualified enough to not get hired for other types of work in life. Add some major label touring and producing and some gear endorsements to go along with that... blah, blah or blog, blog, blog. My primary source of certification comes from having a reputation for great tone from those who are known to have good ears. Listen to my clips and you decide. If you like what you hear, you might want to hear what I say about it. Pretty simple. I love to write about this stuff, but, currently sitting three deep in studio projects, I really don't have time for this. So when I'm writing, such as now. I'm actually playing hookie from my day job which is studio producer, artist, session guy. I should be recording right now and I think I better. So when I get another second, we'll begin talking tone. Thanks for dialing in. Michael Lewis Artist/Producer/Session Guitarist Rep for Fuchs Amplifiers Nashville, TN
